Everything we tried was delicious...from appetizers like Garlic Edamame, Crazy Avocado, most of the rolls on the happy hour menu, to specialty rolls like The Black Tiger Roll, Tunamaxx Roll, Caterpillar Roll, EVERYTHING was super delicious! The staff is very friendly and attentive, place is not crowded and very nice atmosphere.

This Groupon was NOT what it said it was, do not purchase!! It was NOT unlimited...in fact I left hungry and the servers took so long to bring hardly any food. Waste of time and money and terribly planned event.

My favorite little sushi place in North Scottsdale. Love the baked scallops and the Vegetable tempura. Would recommend trying.

The groupon description and what we experienced were not at all the same thing. It was very disappointing.

My experience at Big Eye Sushi Bar was disappointing. The groupon advertised for unlimited sushi at the big eye sushi showdown. The main issues I had was the event was very unorganized, poor service, poor value and the ultimately did not live up to expectations. The event was advertised to have 2 starting times, one at 1pm and 1 at 5pm. The 5pm starting time was cancelled, however no notification was given without notice to the purchasers. Having called ahead to confirm the event we attended the 1pm event. The service was very delayed and unorganized having to wait approximately 45 minutes for water. The wait staff was understaffed and as a result was not very attentive to any single customers need. It was also advertised that as part of the groupon one beer or wine was included as part of the package. However, at the end we were still expected to pay for our drinks. We were able to get one of the drinks removed from the bill, due to the waitress not understanding what we ordered. The sushi battle took a very long time to complete and we were waiting very long time's in between courses, which were small. In total we had 1 appetizer, 1 piece for the first round, 2 pieces for the 2nd round and a 4 piece roll for the third round from each chef, over a 3 hour period, in addition to the appetizer. Which while not a small amount of food, is not unlimited. When I asked the waitress if i could order off the regular menu, i was informed only the battle food was eligible for the groupon. My wife and I left the restaurant, and when i returned to express my displeasure over the unlimited sushi, I was informed that the unlimited sushi was about to start, after three hours. The highlight of the event was the food by chef Josh. His knife cuts were precise, he had a positive attitude and the food was tasty. Overall, I would like to return to taste the food, however i would not recommend purchasing this groupon for the Samari showdown, as this was an event my wife and I were looking forward to, and it was ended up putting a very disappointing end to an otherwise enjoyable weekend.

From Our Editors

Born in Seoul, South Korea, chef Yohan Yun first began working in sushi restaurants when he was 16. However, he credits his father with teaching him many of the skills that he still uses at Big Eye Sushi Bar to craft miso, soy sauce, and nato, a type of fermented soybean. The menu spotlights never-frozen fish; even the maki use rice sparingly. The rolls instead accessorize the tightly bundled fish and vegetables with such adventurous ingredients as chipotle cream sauce and thin slices of lemon. Orders of sashimi arrive with fragrant ginger sauce or jalapeños, keeping diners from tossing chopsticks to rakish musketeers having sword duels.
