Very well done. Staff exceptionally cordial and helpful. My 10 year o?d grandson wanted to go there. He was educated for 2 hours on man's inhumanity to man. He came away knowing that caring for people!e irregardless of religion or ethnicity important trait to have.

The docent led tours are really good. Check the website for the times they are offered. My friend and I went through on our own, which allows more time in each part, as there are so many details and personal stories to read.

if you go during the day and school year, be prepared for school visits. They usually conclude school visits by noon.

Allow plenty of time to see this museum!! Very interesting, thought provoking and very well planned out in its presentation. The museum is much bigger than I expected and there are 3 floors and monuments outside to see.

The Illionois Holocaust Museum is an amazing and varied place that always has so much to see, from the interactive family and youth exhibit, the permanent exhibit that you MUST see at some point, and the great temporary exhibits they bring in on a regular basis, like the current"Light & Noir" dealing with Jewish emigres in Hollywood. Along with the art gallery and the spaces for refection, the Illinois Holocaust Museum is a place you can go back to again and again and always feel like there is more to see or experience.

Try to have a tour with a docent! Our docent Stuart was knowledgeable, congenial and made the tour more than worthwhile. We learned a great deal in the hour or so spent with him. We definitely will return to cover much of the museum in greater detail as the tour is an over view which compels you to return for more. We also saw the exhibit Light and Noir regarding Hollywood and the film industry created with the talent coming from the Jewish film talent. Consider joining!!

We ended up arriving very close to the time a guided tour was going to start so got a lot more out of the exhibits.

From Our Editors

It was the late 1970s, and neo-Nazis were threatening to march in Skokie. Chicago-area Survivors and their supporters, reacting to the situation, came together to create the Holocaust Memorial Foundation of Illinois. This initiative evolved into the Museum which was built to honor the memory of Holocaust victims; educate visitors; and combat prejudice, hatred, and indifference in local communities and throughout the world.
