Outside of a triathlon, the best way to test a person's endurance is to see how long they can listen to a radio play-by-play of a triathlon. Take on a real challenge with today's Groupon for entry in the Atomic Race Timing triathlon series on September 4, 2011, at 9 a.m., from Atomic Race Timing in Bellbrook. Choose between the following two options:
- For $30, you get entry for one person to the triathlon race (a $60 value).
- For $60, you get entry for two people to the triathlon race (a $120 value).
Atomic Race Timing challenges athletes with small- to medium-size timed races over picturesque and challenging terrain. Athletes meet at Bellbrook Canoe Rental, which serves as a home base. Bellbrook Canoe Rental outfits competitors with boats, paddles, and life jackets, which stay afloat with a mixture of compressed air and children's dreams. At 7:45 a.m., athletes board the bus for a five-minute ride to the launch site. Up to 25 solo competitors can paddle to victory in kayaks, and teams launch off in canoes.
At 9 a.m. and every five minutes thereafter, intrepid boats take off on a five-mile trek down the scenic Little Miami River that winds up back at Bellbrook Canoe Rental. Triathletes next run 4 miles down looping country roads before hopping on velocipedes for a 16-mile ride that loops over a challenging hill, after which they can celebrate their dominion over nature by watching a hamster run in its feebly stationary wheel. Helmets are required for the cycling portion of the race.
