What You'll Get
With today’s Groupon, $5 gets you $20 toward a Saturday or Sunday Bossa Nova brunch at Flatwater. Located right by the river at 321 N Clark St., Flatwater's brunch (complete with a live band) is like the breakfast they might serve in heaven, but only at God's villa.
Try the crabcake benedict: a black-bean ragout and an old bay hollandaise sauce you'd betray your own country to taste. Or, how about calamari with spicy remoulade and Thai chili sauce? You can pretend you're on Deadliest Catch and shove one of your friends in the river. It'll be a perfect chance to steal his panzanella salad with heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil toco, and ciabatta crouton. And why not steal his wallet to pay for the meal? You're already going to jail for assault.
If you like food, you'll love the pappardelle: shrimp with parmesan, rosemary broth, teardrop tomatoes, and roasted garlic; it's so good, it made Dick Cheney cry even after he had his heart and tear ducts surgically removed.
This Groupon is only for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Flatwater has seating outside so you can get a great view of the river. Many of the brunch entrees are served with potato hash. Bossa Nova (‘new trend’ in Portuguese) is Brazilian music. (Now you're in the know and can make fun of all those fools who think it means ‘new boss’ and expect the band to play Springsteen covers.)
Here's what some Flatwater customers said on Yelp:
- "Flatwater is perfect for brunch. For starters, it has a wonderful view of the Chicago River and the Clark Street bridge. There's plenty of seating indoors, at the bar, and on the tented deck, good for gatherings...For entertainment, we listened to a combo of low-key music, and a live singer and bossa nova band. For an appetizer, we shared an order of insalata caprese...It was fresh, and went great with a freshly-squeezed orange juice." – Dave H.
- "A picaresque place to eat. I had the opportunity to eat brunch here with some friends. Brunch also had a nice jazz quartet/singer, which really added to the experience. Service was nice, friendly, and accomodating [sic]. We brought two little kids and they set us up nicely. I can't say how much I enjoyed having a nice brunch along the river, along with the music, a good breeze and boats floating by, it was quite relaxing and pleasant." – Jonathan C.
- "I really liked the decor and lighting in the restaurant, and it also gets big bonus points for the river view. We went on to have some really fantastic food here." – Allyson C.
