The first moving picture, which depicted a horse running at full gallop, was quickly enhanced by the first special effects, which showed a horse exploding next to a 3-D spaceship. Enjoy advances in film with today's Groupon: for $15, you get two movie tickets (up to an $18 value), two popcorns, and two sodas (a $12 value) at Gateway Film Center (up to a $30 total value), located in the South Campus Gateway.

The popcorn purveyors at Gateway Film Center not only accommodate visitors with a wide selection of concessions, but also sate eye cravings for cinema by hosting an extensive bill of Hollywood and independent movies in a state-of-the-art theater. Unlike a candlelit dinner at the DMV, two tickets to see Friends With Benefits with Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake provide a night of blissful laughter and irony, and is further enhanced with two medium popcorn/soda-pop combos. Throughout the summer, classic Westerns ride again in Gateway's Double Barrel series, with showtimes on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 p.m. Upcoming films include Blazing Saddles, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Peruse through Gateway Film Center's current box office features.

Gateway Film Center

Even though the crimson neon sign recalls that of a classic movie theater, the stadium seating and digital-projection system of Gateway Film Center point toward a modern polish. The same can be said of the cinema’s choice of films, a mix of classic pictures, arthouse darlings, and Hollywood blockbusters. The film center is also home to The Torpedo Room, a new restaurant founded by Liz Lessner of Columbus Food League, along with popcorn, candy, and a full bar with more than 20 draft beers.

Great local theater. Nice alternative to the chain theaters. Love that they show movies you can't see other places in the city.
