Now in its 15th season, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company continues to collect the accolades of Chicago’s press by unraveling the works of some of the world’s most renowned playwrights. This March, seasoned thespian Greg Matthew Anderson seizes the spotlight and the front row’s secret stash of M&Ms during Chesapeake, a one-man performance built around politics and canine companionship. When Kerr, the play’s controversial star, has his artistic funding threatened by a local senator, he hatches a plan to kidnap the politician’s dog and reveal the legislator’s two-faced façade. Greenhouse Theater’s downstairs main stage provides an optimal, intimate backdrop to the unfolding drama, as the story spins itself into an unexpected celebration of artistic activism and animals who continue to fight for their right to vote.
