Drowning Pool

  • Who is Drowning Pool: a grime-streaked alt-metal act who destroyed the air waves when their platinum-selling debut album Sinner dropped in 2001
  • What else dropped: the bodies—all the way to to the floor—in their song “Bodies,” which juices mosh pits to this day
  • The Tragedy: a year after Sinner came out, lead singer Dave “Stage” Williams passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition
  • How the Band Responded: in 2002, they released the retrospective DVD Sinema, and used the proceeds to posthumously fulfill his lifelong goal of buying his parents a house
  • Williams’s Continuing Legacy: 2012’s Resilience, the first album featuring Drowning Pool’s new singer Jasen Moreno, included the melancholy ballad “In Memory Of…”
  • Their Latest Work: “Hellelujah” was released in early 2016, with Moreno demonstrating a sound AllMusic called “eerily like the late Layne Staley at certain points, while evoking latter-day Marilyn Manson when he’s really pushing the higher limits”
