The Richmond County Fair celebrates its 32nd anniversary this fall with 25 acres of contests, live entertainment, food, and more than 15 rides, including a ferris wheel, bumper cars, and a roller coaster. In addition to three stages devoted to live music, the fairgrounds brims with varied entertainment, from magic acts and pig races to BMX stunt shows and pie-eating contests. Visitors can stop by the snack wagon to redeem vouchers for four hot dogs and two sodas, then having personal hot-dog eating contests with themselves or with fun-loving apparition of Aaron Burr. Whippersnappers can enjoy a wide variety of activities for kids, including face painting, a petting zoo, puppet shows, and kid-friendly historical demonstrations. The festival has free parking and a free shuttle to tote visitors to the fairgrounds all day, so guests can leave fanny-pack-sized scooters at home.
Held at Historic Richmond Town, visitors will also have access to the history museum to learn about the American experience, colonial life, and how to properly tie a bonnet. With buildings nearing their 350th birthday, the village populates almost 50 acres and features more than 30 original structures to transport friendly interlopers to a simpler era.
