About Houston Egyptian Festival

On the last Saturday in October, however, all of those things share the spotlight as the first annual Houston Egyptian Festival unfolds at Discovery Green. Here's what you can expect:

  • Food: Egyptian dishes anchor the spread, which also includes Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and African foods. The menu features kebabs, shawarma, falafel, grape leaves, and various drinks, including Egyptian red wine and hibiscus iced tea.

  • Entertainment: Live music and belly-dancing shows and lessons captivate attendees, and history lessons add a bit of education to the festival by shedding light on ancient Egypt. But perhaps the most interesting thing at the fest are the real camels, which guests can feed, pet, and secretly name Winston.

  • Merchandise: Souvenirs from the fest include all sorts of Egyptian merchandise, from papyrus art to hookah accessories to Egyptian coffees and teas.
