MB Roland Distillery
At MB Roland Distillery, the staff gives out samples of grain-to-glass drinks, co-opting similar techniques to produce spirits that showcase the quality of local Kentucky ingredients. It's all rather fitting, considering the distillery set up shop in a former dairy farm, and sources its grain from Christian County Grain in Pembroke. Read on to learn about some of MB Roland's signature spirits and the native crops that give them their flavor.
Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
Made from: food-grade white corn
Getting its full flavor from the Prohibition-era practice of bottling at distillation, this whiskey is so popular that it often sells out the day it hits shelves. For that reason, the distillery offers people the opportunity to commission an entire barrel.
Kentucky Pink Lemonade
Made from: lemons, strawberries, cane sugar, MB Roland's True Kentucky Shine
Despite its summery flavor, this spirit is hardly seasonal. The distillery recommends building it with light sodas for a pool party, with ginger beer for a slightly more autumnal taste, and even with champagne on New Year's Eve. They call that last one a Pink Fizz.
St. Elmo's Fire
Made from: cinnamon, cayenne pepper, cane sugar, MB Roland's True Kentucky Shine
Yes, it's great chilled for shots, but St. Elmo's Fire also a versatile mixing spirit that plays well with coffee, flavored liqueurs, cream soda, and Dr Pepper.
Kentucky Mint Julep
Made from: cane sugar, all-natural spearmint leaves, MB Roland's Kentucky White Dog
Any Kentucky distillery worth its weight in Derby hats should make a mean mint julep. And MB Roland certainly does, bottling the entire cocktail so you need only chill it and pour over crushed ice.
