What You'll Get
Nurse your catfish-noodling wounds with the finest fishes that won't double as gloves. With today's Groupon to Tank Sushi, you'll get $40 worth of high-quality fishes rolled, cut, or tempuraed to perfection for $20. Chicago Magazine and Time Out Chicago readers have hailed the fishful Lincoln Square Tank as one of Chicago's best.
Tank Sushi's menu features a vast array of masterly maki rolls, such as the seared scallop (with avocado and masago mayo; $9.25) and the rainbow roll (with eel, tuna, salmon, yellow tail, and avocado; $15.25). Try the avocado tempura roll (with asparagus, sprouts, spicy tobiko, curry orange mayo, and Japanese 7 pepper–seasoned avocado; $8.25) for a little crunch or combine lobster and fried banana in the robusta (with flying fish roe, daikon sprouts, and spicy honey mayo; $17.25). If nigiri is more your thing, go for the Ikura (salmon roe; $6.15) and white tuna ($7.15), or get the chef's best with a 12-piece sashimi ume plate ($24.50). And if sushi is not your thing, try the kobe beef burger topped with a quail egg and crispy salmon skin ($14.25) or the grilled chicken teriyaki with veggies over rice ($16.25). Wash it all down with Tank specialty cocktails like the enticingly named Samurai or Red Octopus ($10 each), or just warm up with a hot green tea ($3).
The sleek, minimalist dining room and warm, glowing lamps make Tank Sushi the perfect destination for wining and dining potential business clients or wining and dining the attractive adult children of potential business clients. The long narrow restaurant is outfitted with an attractive bar where you can sit and watch the sushi chefs apply the expert skills they learned from their college roommates. Tank's intimate tables and ambient music won't interfere with your dinner conversation as you and your date sensually reenact your favorite scenes from Super Infra-Man.

- The seasoned crew behind this venture knows the makings of good maki, as well as sushi and sashimi. But readers also love the cooked dishes, including seasonally changing pan-Asian small plates and entrées like tempura-battered soft-shell crab, Szechuan pepper–crusted New York strip and sautéed ginger duck breast. – Time Out Chicago
- Tank’s formula—sleek contemporary space, clubby background music, signature cocktails—has been done before. But it still feels welcoming and casual enough for the neighborhood folkies and hippiesters. Many of the sushi combinations show a global influence: the Latin Heat (superwhite tuna and smoked salmon with avocado) sports cilantro and a healthy slice of jalapeño. We loved the Ocean Sundae roll (shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, and an embarrassment of sauces, mayos, and other adornments), with its combination of sweet and spicy flavors and creamy and crunchy textures. – Kathie Bergquist, Chicago Reader
- Tank Sushi is one of THE best places for sushi and drinks, hands down....The waitstaff was very friendly and very accomodating. The food was presented in a very contemporary and inviting display. We also agreed that the bar inside Tank would be a fun little hangout as well! Thank you to the restauraunts [sic] owner, Franco, for creating such an inviting and yummy restaurant... – TamaraC22, Citysearch
