Horseback riding replaced horsefront riding during the War of 1812, when American soldiers realized they couldn't be taken seriously while being carried in adult-size baby slings. Giddy-up like a grownup with today's Groupon: for $55, you get two private one-hour horseback-riding lessons at Taylor Turn Stable (a $110 value). Two Groupons may also be purchased for a total of four private lessons.
With lifelong rider and certified instructor Kyle Taylor at the reins, Taylor Turn Stable entices equestrian enthusiasts with its well-maintained facilities and careful, one-on-one attention. One-hour private lessons instruct riders of all ages in either the Western or English riding style, and include lessons in proper grooming, tacking, and application of the parking brake. Students will get to lead and saddle a fleet of friendly, well-trained steeds, including Shetland pony mixes and quarter horses, and should plan on being at the stable for an extra half hour in order to factor in time for both readying and putting away their energy-efficient rides. While Taylor Turn Stable requires all riders to outfit themselves in long pants, hard-soled leather shoes, and a helmet, all other equipment, including gloves, half-chaps, and Lone Ranger masks, will be provided if necessary.
