Today's Groupon gets you a one-month membership to the rockiest of indoor rock-climbing oases, Texas Rock Gym. For just $30, you get unlimited access to Texas Rock Gym's massive indoor climbing facility, a requisite ClimbSafe class, climbing gear, and fitness classes (including Tai Chi and Kung-Fu, as well as various levels of climbing classes). Your membership lets you bring a friend to climb for free (not including gear) on Wednesdays, but gifting friends with their own Groupons gives you a climbing buddy every day of the week. The monthly membership is normally $50, with full equipment rental costing an extra $12 each visit. Even if you only use your Groupon twice, you'll be getting a big discount.
Climbing in a rock gym is nothing like grappling the plywood-and-plastic climbing walls at a company picnic or building a batting cage in your backyard. Texas Rock Gym's climbing walls are covered with state-of-the-art textured products that mimic the conditions of real rocks (indentions, protrusions, overhangs, underhangs, and cracks included). Veteran climbers say rock climbing is sort of like training for and running a marathon, but you get the adrenaline rushes in shorter, more intensely concentrated spurts. Indoor climbing is a great way for someone to get started, or is a perfect after-work and climb-during-inclement-weather alternative for experienced climbers who want continuous practice.
Late-night and weekend hours put the adrenaline rush of rock climbing within your mighty grasp every day of the week. With today’s Groupon, there’s no need to move mountains—the climbing wall has come to you.
- I wanted to stay in shape without jogging outside or being on a treadmill and this is a great solution. I was a bit hesitant at first, but the friendly staff made me feel at ease. – zaubermaus17, Citysearch
- This place is huge so it's great for groups, families, and even dates. TRG has classes starting with Climbing 101 which introduces you to belaying and basic climbing techniques. – Dave E., Yelp
- I did..."Bouldering" where you free climb w/out a rope...I fell from about halfway and rolled, unscathed onto their springy, shredded tires they cover the ground with...i felt like jackie chan! – Anna L, Yelp
Man Versus Mineral
Since the dawn of time, Americans have battled one constant enemy: rocks. These mineral-aggregates come in three, equally deadly varieties: Igneous, Metamorphic, and Dragonsbane.
Scientists blame rocks for the 1985 Rock Squashing of Richard Branson, the 1986 Toledo Avalanche that killed native son Jamie Farr, and the declining popularity of the Pledge of Allegiance. Luckily, Texas Rock Gym uses its own faux-rock climbing walls, so Americans may finally experience the thrill of rock climbing without being flimflammed.

About Texas Rock Gym
Inside Texas Rock Gym, over 14,000 square feet of climbable surface wait to be gripped and clambered over by novice and expert climbers, who navigate routes that are regularly altered to keep things fresh. The gym’s mandatory orientation ensures that each visitor observes proper safety measures during their climb. Following orientation, climbers can strap themselves to a harness at one of more than 40 rope stations and begin top-rope climbing up lofty heights, while more advanced climbers lead trips up over complex courses or the stone faces of former presidents. Climbers can also skip the harnesses altogether and try their hand at bouldering across height-restricted surfaces, or head to one of the gym’s Tai Chi or Yoga classes.
