Almost anything can be improved with music, as evidenced by tuba-accompanied balcony serenades, operatic State of the Union addresses, and yodeled bank statements. Tune your ears to the sweet sounds on stage with today’s Groupon: for $50, you get two tickets to three performances by the Utah Chamber Artists, plus a CD of every show (a $135 total value).

The ensemble, recent winner of a Best of State medal for Best Vocal Group, currently consists of 40 singers backed up by a 40-piece orchestra. Carol cravers can get their fill of candy cane–shaped chords at the December 6 performance of "Christmas with Utah Chamber Artists", which includes Francis Poulenc's Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël. Two of the most euphonious dual-syllabic composers of all time share the spotlight in the February 28 concert "Bernstein & Mozart: The Long and the Short of It". The program features beloved Utah soprano Celena Shafer performing in Mozart’s Requiem and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. 2011 marks the Utah Chamber Artists' 20th anniversary, and on May 2, "The Beverley Sorenson Young Artist Concert" features talented key-tickler Richard Marshall, who, with the choir and orchestra, will play audience favorites from the last two decades, excluding the popular piano remix of "The Macarena."

This Groupon also includes a CD of each of the performances above, normally only available to members of the ensemble's Encore! Club. The discs will perfectly complement a shelf full of the Utah Chamber Artists' acclaimed previous releases or a shelf full of lonely, music-deprived bobbleheads.

Reviews

The Salt Lake Tribune recently featured the Utah Chamber Artists twice:

  • The choir inspires intense loyalty among singers as well as audience members; turnover is minimal, and [artistic director Barlow] Bradford estimated that 25 percent of the current group has been with UCA from the beginning. – Catherine Reese Newton, Salt Lake Tribune
