What You'll Get
As the first-born digit, thumbs have been hogging all the video-game fun from the rest of the body. Today's Groupon gives torsos and legs a turn: for $20, you get a 10-punch class card for kids’ XRKade classes (a $50 value) at X Fitness. All classes must be used within six months of activation.
Though XRKade is located inside X Fitness, it transports users to another world altogether. Developed by a group of gamers and fitness enthusiasts, the immersive technological experience aims to make physical activity as fun as shooting hordes of pixilated zombies by incorporating it with video games. Fingers won't be pressing buttons, but entire torsos and appendages will move in time with lights and video simulations that mimic everything from dancing to snowboarding and mountain biking. On the light board, feet become pong paddles or frenzied bug squashers, replacing thumb-cramping button mashing or frustrating real-life fly swatting with full-bodied aerobic action. Arranged by age, kids’ classes are held twice weekly and include age-appropriate exercise goals disguised by flashing neon orbs and fun competition. In peewee class, young ones ages six to eight will develop their social interaction, balance, coordination, and engagement of the non-marital variety during scavenger hunts, trivia, and XRKade games. For juniors ages nine through 13, the focus on balance, coordination, stretchability, and high scoring will all increase. Competitive instincts overtake exercise exhaustion and keep the brain engaged, which in turn makes time fly by and exercise feel like a day spent in some delightful alternate reality.
Video games already mentally prepare children for such common adult tasks as kicking turtle shells at angry mushrooms and smashing barrels thrown by giant apes with sledgehammers. Today's Groupon to XRKade prepares them physically as well in a far healthier environment than a ghost-infested maze lined with trails of pills.
Punch passes are non-transferrable.
