Won't stay here again Don't be tempted to stay here just because the prices might be a little lower than other lodging near Anchorage Airport. There's a reason they're cheap... I do have to say that the staff I encountered at the front desk in person and by phone, and the maintenance man who came to try to fix the super-slow drain in my room were all pleasant. They also gave me a small senior discount when I checked in, which was appreciated. And it really is very convenient to the airport. That's the end of the good stuff. Like others have noted, I had no idea my room would not be in the main building. It was in fact, in the "Annex" one building away from the main hotel. Granted it was easy to get back in my car and drive there. When the woman at the front desk gave me a key for a room starting with 3XXX, I asked if there was an elevator, as I knew my biggest suitcase, full of equipment, etc., weighed 50 lbs. She said, "I think there are a few steps to get into the building but after that it should be fine." So I drove around the corner to the back of the Annex to park. I got out my suitcase, lugged it up 3-4 stairs, got into the building and guess what! 22 (I counted) more steps, and no staff on site (ever) in the Annex. I'm in good shape for my age - mid-70s - so I got it up to my stuffy little room, with its small thru-the-wall air conditioner doing its best to a) cool the muggy room, and b) provide enough white noise to at least partly drown out the INCREDIBLY noisy intersection of Spenard Rd and Wisconsin St. So oh yeah, there was also a ceiling fan, missing a blade, of course... The room appeared essentially clean, but had the vibe of a 1960's apartment building. The furniture was basic, like only 1 bedside lamp for a queen bed so only one person can read at night. Bathroom ventilation fan did not work. No bathmat so use one of your towels for the floor. Bathroom sink drain was extremely slow, so I called the front desk and not too much later a pleasant maintenance guy came to try to fix it. He cleaned out the drain pipe, reassembled everything, and left. I went to use the sink and the stopper pull came out in my hand, but at this point I was so stressed from being in the muggy, noisy room, and having to make 3 or 4 more trips up and down 22 steps to get all my stuff , and knowing I would have to get that heavy suitcase and other stuff down the same way again in the morning, I didn't bother calling maintenance again. The Annex - that you won't know you're booked in until you get there - is noisy, it's creepy with no staff present, it's muggy, and there's no elevator. That's really all you need to know.

One of the worst hotels I’ve encountered Ignore any but the most critical reviews. This place was so bad, I checked out of my room immediately. I’m older and they gave me a 3 story walk up. The gentleman who carried the bags wasn’t surprised. Later I was told this was a former brother. Seemed like it. The front office staff were nice but not really on the ball. The place is old, smelly and rooms were raster disgusting. Look at my other reviews, I haven’t ever rated anything this low. Pass. They should close the place.

First hotel that I've ever walked out on This is the first hotel that I've ever walked out of in my life and I recommend that nobody else book this hotel either if you value your sanity. First, we showed up at 5 PM on a Friday evening to check into our room. Check-in begins at 3 PM. We were informed that our room was not yet ready. We asked if they had any other rooms available for us as we were tried from traveling. The front desk clerk rudely replied no. While we were waiting 30 minutes in the lobby, we checked the hotel website and they were offering other rooms so that was clearly a lie but whatever. I can overlook that. The part that I really want to stress is that there are two different buildings to this hotel. There's the main building and then there's a second building in the back near an alley. There was a dumpster and a shipping container taking up most of the parking spaces as we pull up. The paint is chipping off the railings as we walk up the stairs. The room we got was something you see out of a Law and Order episode. I am not even joking that this was one of the worst hotel rooms I have ever seen and looks nothing like the pictures on the website. I walked out and did not stay the night. That was a waste of $200. I wouldn't have paid $50 for that room. We immediately left this hotel and booked a much nicer hotel for less money than they were charging for the same night. I recommend that you avoid this hotel and its rude staff.

Puffin Inn is blowing Smoke! The hotel is rated a two category for a reason. No amenities and the property is nothing more than a run down motel in a seedy area of Anchorage. Nothing about the room or the property I saw has been ‘newly renovated’. Perhaps they bought used beds and mattresses from a hotel going out of business and it’s simply new to them? The room was not clean and smelled heavily of smoke and pets. The carpet was filthy. The basics were attended to, pillows were plumped and arranged nicely on the bed and linens were clean and plump. Toiletries were supplied, soap and lotion only….no shampoo and conditioner. The breakfast was limited to a selection of toast, bagels and muffins, hard boiled eggs, cheerios, and make your own waffles. Two juices and decent coffee was provided. But if you want to share the meal with random homeless people wandering in I don’t recommend eating there or sitting in the lobby. The staff is thin… a driver and a front desk receptionist/chef/customer service/tour guide, clearly overworked but incredibly patient and cheerful despite the continuous guest complaints she handled while I sat nearby waiting for my departure. Skip this place, pay a few more $$$ and enjoy your night anywhere else.
