Love having a kitchen! We really liked our room at Sonesta. It was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was great! There was a full-size refrigerator, stove top, microwave, dishwasher, dishes, utensils, glasses and cups, pots and 1 pan. We had a queen size bed that was very comfortable. We had reserved a studio room, so we expected a couch in the living room, but there was another bed. For 1 night it wasn't a problem, but if we stay longer next time, we will make sure we get a couch or at least 2 chairs instead of the extra bed. The employees were friendly and helpful.

2.75* We stayed one nt will passing thru from Houston to Gatlinburg. We had Sonesta points to use so chose this location. Before booking I specifically asked the reservation 800 number the following: Do they offer any type of breakfast? Do they have a fitness facility that is currently open and operating? I was told yes to both questions and thus the reason I chose this location vs other Sonesta’s in Birmingham. Apparently the person I spoke with had no idea bc upon arrival was told the property has never offered any breakfast and the gym is still closed due to COVID. We really wanted a workout after 10 hrs of sitting in the car. The hotel is OLD. Our room was clean and ok for one nt stay. However, the room smelled of an unidentifiable odor. The bathroom walls had yellow stains. The vent was rusty. The room was spacious, though, with a separate bedroom from the kitchen and living room. Strong smell of moth balls in the parking lot. Found a pile of moth balls at the back door entrance. Large rubber maid tub just sitting atop the landscape bushes. Odd. The property was well located to retail areas for dining, etc..... No restaurants within walking distance, though. Parking lot well lit and were able to park right outside our room window. Was located off the main road with some less traveled roads. This allowed us to at least get a run in the morning before departing. Would also allow for an evening walk if interested. Not sure when Sonesta took over from IHG, but need to come in with some refreshing.

Sleepless in Birmingham! First, the good stuff and the only reason for a #3 average rating. Front desk staff was very nice. The room was very clean. Everything we needed was available. But that's where it stopped. We were in Room 128 which NEVER should have been offered as an accommodation. This room is next to the electrical room and the elevators which ran all night long. Who uses the elevator during the night?????? Never heard noises like this and we are frequent and world-wide travelers. And then it got worst, if you can believe that. On the other side of us was an exit door which slammed in the wee hours of early morning. Bang.....bang.....bang. On and On. Where are people going at 3 a.m. 4 a.m. etc.? I did report our discomfort to the gentleman on duty the next day and he was oblivious to our complaint. I simply stated, "That room should never be given to any guest" And WE ARE PRIORITY CLUB MEMBERS! Not a way to treat your frequent travelers and ones who stay at this hotel when traveling to Birmingham. PLEASE PLEASE take this room off your accommodation list.

Diamond in the rough Honestly we selected this hotel because they accepted dogs and it was on our way from OK to Athens and they took IHG points. This is an older property but it does not disappoint. Very comfortable and clean rooms. Reasonable price. We only saw one other dog. We will plan to make this our regular hotel stop for this trip. Also located in an area with lots of amenities/retail. We ate at The Highlands downtown (highly recommend) but it was easy to and from. We feel fortunate to find this simple but comfortable location.
