Historical New England Charm We stayed for three nights at the Steven Clay Homestead while visiting our daughter and her family in nearby Raymond. Ed and Teresa have been loving caretakers of this historic home. They can share much of the history of the house, the area and many objects of interest. They are delightful couple and so very interesting to talk to. I'm sure if we lived nearby we could be close friends. However, one of the best highlights of our stay was Ed's Eggs Benedict. They were so good we had them three days in a row, even though there were other tempting breakfast options. In our opinion, they were the best Eggs Benedict ever, not overly fussy or embellished, just delicious. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to visit family or happen to be in the area.

Awesome stay at a beautiful home. Ed and Theresa (Innkeepers) have done a wonderful job restoring this 200+ year old home. The home was very clean, quiet, and had a large living room with comfortable furniture out and many knick-knacks and books about the history of Candia. The Music Room (our guest room for 3 nights) was spacious, had a very comfortable bed, and although it was located on the first floor it was very quiet. Ed and Theresa are gracious hosts and provide the personable touch that the chain hotels cannot provide. Ed cooks an amazing breakfast. His eggs benedict was so good I had it 3 days in a row. My wife loved the french toast and the real maple syrup. They offer a large variety of coffees, teas, and even have hot chocolate that guests can have 24 hours a day. Ed spent several hours of his time with me discussing the modifications made to the home over the years and even showed me his working antique tractors and implements. Theresa was very friendly and went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. She obviously takes great pride in her home.

Awkward and cluttered We stayed here two nights in October 2017. The property is lovely, the bed was comfortable and the food was good. Other than that . . . I have never felt so awkward at a B&B. Every surface in our large room was buried under tchotchkes and decorative doodads. There was no place to put our stuff. No suitcase racks. The closet was full of gear, so we couldn't hang anything up. We didn't even try to look in the drawers of the bureau to see if there was any usable space there. We wondered if the owner would have been happier running a decorating business instead of a B&B. As for breakfast: I've stayed at a fair number of B&Bs, but this was the only one where I've had to fill out a written form the night before choosing my breakfast time and indicating my breakfast choice. I can see that it would make breakfast logistics easier, but it still added to the awkward feeling of the stay. A couple of notes: The bathroom is shared; the shower had lots of hot water and excellent water pressure. There are laundry facilities available for a moderate fee. Our room had a mini-fridge (which was the only empty place in the room, other than the bed, where we could put anything.)

Wonderful charming place, but darn that bed We really liked the Stephen Clay Homestead B&B. Everything was perfect about it (even the shared bathroom was OK), but ugh, except one important thing. The bed. The proprietors were wonderful, their flexibility, the history of the home, the spaciousness, the country location, the breakfast ... everything was wonderful. Except the bed. For one person the bed would have been fine, but for two the bed was worn out. We dipped to the middle resulting in a poor night's sleep. My recommendation to the owners ... you should try sleeping in every bedroom and see for yourselves the condition of each bed. Perhaps do that once a year. I bet you would replace it. The sheets, bed covers, pillows ... all were great ... but the bed was worn out. I wish I could have given this property an excellent rating....

Great B&B place in a charming historic house with special breakfast service The location may be remote, but comes with the advantage of a quiet enjoyable stay. The owners modified the historic house in a way that it provides modern amenities without losing its charm. Theresa made us feel welcome with explaining details about the house and its features, as well as helpful tips about restaurants and excursion destinations. Her made to order breakfast and the choice of teas and coffees exceed by far normal expectations.
