Don’t stay in such a horribly run place, while on a beautiful island! **Avoid at all costs!** Terrible owner! No Bar, internet, TV, or blades in ceiling fans. Manager (who was great) said they lost their liquor license and internet has been down for months. Owner lied about island wide curfew during a storm. Told me Police and Military were arresting people outside, wasn’t true. When asked to clarify where his info came from he referred me to the city webpage. When nothing was mentioned he “clarified” that it was a self imposed curfew so his manager could go home since his replacement didn’t show up. Owner has reviews from people with the same profile pic but different names and locations. When I posted review on Airbnb he contacted me to make accusations, name call, and belittle me. The pictures of the hotel look nothing like where you will be staying. The pictures & the owner are nothing but LIES! Don’t be fooled like I was.

Fawlty Towers A good central location with a jovial, friendly manager called Oscar. Roof top views of the ocean. Clean rooms. Safe deposit boxes. Substantial cooked breakfast ordered from a menu. Friendly, efficient kitchen and wait staff. We booked the suite directly with the owner. As it was unavailable on our final night of four, he offered to upgrade us to the deluxe room (usually USD 10 more) for the same price. When we later returned with the payment, this had been incorrectly conveyed to the manager who thought the total due was for 3 nights only. It took an hour to straighten out but I did think to ask for a receipt for each of the two bookings. The suite was spacious and bed comfortable with quality bedding. Lots of towels and white robes. Essential items were missing from the kitchen (knife, dishwashing liquid, scourer, tea towels, draining board, cups, etc) and no TV remote control. When prompted the next day, someone went shopping for one but left us to programme the TV to the wifi ourselves. We had to re-position the TV to establish a connection. Wifi was non-existent in the rooms despite assurances that it would work in this particular suite. The common areas don’t have air-con so guests were often vying for the downstairs fans to get on-line. The shower head fell off in one bathroom, the taps came off in the other. Neither basin drained properly. The LED lights in every room flickered incessantly. The air-con dropped ice over the kitchen counter overnight, soaking our dry foodstuff. More than once during our stay, we were invited to settle our bar tab despite not having one. Two 350ml beers at the bar cost 170 pesos, approximately USD 10. We paid cash and didn’t partake again. Apparently, someone charged their tequila to our room. Twenty minutes before we were due to switch to the deluxe room, the owner knocked on our door to announce that it was ‘no longer available’ and that there was a ‘change of plan’. We’d now be moving to a courtyard room, no wifi, no balcony, no TV, safe deposit box not mounted, but for ‘substantially less money’ as he put it. The price list shows it to be a difference of USD 55 before taxes. It was Oscar’s day off so we went downstairs to collect the difference in price from the owner. He seemed surprised to learn that we’d already paid for the suite (and in our minds therefore booked to us). Realising that a refund was now due, it was no longer a ‘substantial difference’ in price but ‘not much difference at all’ and we were handed a USD 20 refund. We felt scammed. I would never have booked our final night in the courtyard room and definitely at the price of the suite. Not at all impressed. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Instead of spending our final night in Mexico watching the sunset from our balcony, we sat in a small room watching the lights flicker. A reflection of good management can be seen in the response received to criticism so watch the space below.
