A pleasant interlude… I spent a few nights at this hotel in the middle of September. The loacation is beautiful. The hotel has lots of character. My room had a tired feel about it and the sink was cracked in the bathroom. However, it was peaceful, roomy with a comfortable bed and a nice but limited view. It was extremely good value for what I paid. The staff that I had most contact with were in the restaurant at breakfast time. Mary, the under manager, was professional, hospitable and very approachable. Monica (the Hungarian woman) who worked as the waitress was very attentive to my needs, friendly and helpful. The barman, who I only saw once, was friendly and made me a lovely chocolate with a shot of brandy in it! The visit was extremely pleasant apart from the coffee machine in the restaurant which needs upgrading! It was made special by the staff in the restaurant and I hope that I can visit again!

Totally Unsatisfactory I booked a one night stay at this hotel for the 11th October 2025. Having driven 150 miles from my home my wife and i checked in during the afternoon on our way to a gathering on the Sussex coast. We found the room satisfactory for a one night stay, albeit its furnishings and the bathroom were a little tired. We returned to the room at around 11PM to be confronted with considerable noise (shouting, laughter, music and running water) from the adjoing room. We could hear every word with the wall between the two rooms being pretty poor in terms of noise insulation. I contacted reception and asked that they speak to the adjoining occupants or provide an alternative room. An alternative room was provided to which we moved at about 11.40PM but it was above a bar area from which there was a lot of noise. The room was unclean with stains on the bed cover and its bathroom was tired. There was also a large area of unsightly damp and damaged plaster on one of the walls which we found unsatisfactory. We left the hotel and drove the 150 miles back home arriving a little after 3AM. I contacted the hotel on the 13th October to register a complaint and ask that my money be refunded. I was asked to set out my complaint in an email which I sent but which was neither acknowledged or responded to. I called the hotel again on the 14th October. The helpful person whom I spoke to had no knowledge of my complaint or the email that i had sent on the previous day. I was asked to resend it, which i did that day. On the following day i received this response "Thank you for staying with us and for bringing your concerns to our attention. We sincerely regret that your experience did not meet expectations and truly apologize for the inconvenience caused during your stay. We understand that the initial noise disturbance and subsequent concerns in the second room impacted your comfort, and this is certainly not the standard we aim to provide. Following your feedback, our team conducted an internal review. While some dampness near the wall paint in Room 201 was noted, the room was otherwise found to be clean. Additionally, a large event at the hotel may have contributed to the overall noise levels that evening, and we regret any discomfort this may have caused. As a gesture of goodwill and in appreciation of your patience, we would be happy to offer you a 20% discount on your next stay with us. Please let us know when you plan to return so we can ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for you. Once again, we thank you for your feedback, which helps us improve our service. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and restore your confidence in our hospitality." So, notwithstanding that the issues of noise and the dampness were accepted my request for a refund was denied. The irony is that the hotels response thanks us for staying when the fact is we were unable to do so. This is not an inexpensive hotel and i imagine that there are more satisfactory alternatives available in the locality.

Dusty, smelly, bar drinks way overpriced Very very disappointed with this hotel, if you like dust, this is the hotel for you! Waited an hour for bar food, in the end we cancelled our order, the waitress forgot what we ordered, I cancelled the order in front of the manager he didn’t even say a word no apology or reason as to why chips and chicken was not at our table within 20 mins.now the dust in this hotel is unreal, they clearly do not hoover or wipe things, stay here at your own risk, if you have at least minimal standards you will be left very disappointed

Awful Not sure where to begin really? I’d say it was probably one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever received. From the moment we walked through the entrance there was an odour of old pub/bar lingering in the reception area which wasn’t pleasant to walk into. We was directed to our room which was appreciated. But what can I say about the room? It was probably the most dusty old worn out room I’ve ever stayed in. I have video proof of this, the mattress was stained. The decor was old and tattered. Then the downstairs food service was disgraceful, 55 minutes we were waiting for bar food?? In the end we cancelled and went back to the room hungry. It wasn’t even busy so what was the excuse for the wait? The people served before us had their food straight away?? But the lady who took our order couldn’t even remember what we’d ordered and came back to ask us if it was a sausage roll.. I don’t even like sausage rolls!? The sitting area downstairs was also tired and dusty. I think this hotel needs to invest in some good cleaners to get rid of the smells and dust, also staff who are a bit friendlier. I didn’t sleep at all that night worst stay ever.

Spider for company We have stayed at this hotel many times to visit family in the area. Sad to say it is going downhill rapidly and OYO needs to get its act together. We received an email explaining check in. This was providing us with a code to get into the hotel if the door was closed, and also a code for our room along with our room number. Impersonal to say the least. We did not expect therefore for anyone at reception as it stated in instructions, if any issue to send a WhatsApp and they would attend. What a lovely way to be greeted??!! When we did arrive a gentleman appeared and asked if we were checking in. We told him we had everything we needed, however he insisted on seeing confirmation of payment. We would not have got the codes if we had not paid but we showed him of course. We’d never paid to park there before, because as a guest you’d tap your reg into a machine in reception, but, he asked for £10 a day to park. After some discussion he said ok I’ll charge you £10 which I paid. Would we have had to pay parking if he was not there, I wonder??? We found the room after negotiating past a cleaner sitting on the stairs playing with her phone who didn’t move, an empty wine glass and a dead spider on the corridor carpet. Key code to get into room worked ok. Room ok but not particularly clean. Woodwork in the room is dusty and carpet had clearly not been hoovered. Bed comfortable, Bathroom has mould. Room was attended to after first night and only one towel left. Fairly obvious there were two of us. What made our stay better was Adam the barman who we have known from previous visits, he is so friendly and helpful, we enjoyed chatting to him each evening we were there. Needless to say the dead spider remained with us for the duration of our stay too!!!
