Candlewood Suites Northeast Kansas City by IHG

Horrible experience My first encounter should have framed the context for our arrival. I had an IHG member rate for substantially less per night and (wouldn’t you know it), the website “couldn’t process my request”. I called the facility and after basically having to prove I wasn’t a liar, I got the rate which was given to me online. We were booked for a handicapped room with a roll in shower. Got the confirmation emailed to me, etc. Fast forward to our arrival 9/4 only to be met by “Gloria” who tells me they don’t have our room with a roll in shower available because “their system crashed” (now, they somehow still had our name, arrival, handicap room etc., though). She stated the Springhill Suites next door was managed by the same person and they’d put us there. I asked if Springhill had recliners, though(the whole reason we booked at Candlewood) and she said rudely, “Will you let me finish?!?” (She’s lucky I didn’t want to go to jail at that point!!!) she then got on the phone with Springhill and asked about the room features (whether it had a recliner) and then began speaking in Spanish about me (I don’t guess she knows others understand Spanish, as well!!) Then there was the matter of 5-6 workers (dressed in safety orange like construction workers or something), literally camped outside the main entrance sitting on coolers drinking beer while people are coming and going. The property was littered with cigarette butts, beer cans, vodka bottles, ridiculous!! We have stayed at MANY Candlewood’s (especially the one in Blue Springs), but we will NOT return to this place!!!!!

Wonderful location The location of this hotel just off of I-435 made it quite convenient for coming and going. The room was clean and was mostly nice and quiet. The staff were always smiling and friendly. The pantry was a great option when we wanted a snack, but didn't want to leave the hotel. The pool could be heated just a tad more.

Terrible Stay _ We picked this hotel specifically because of the good reviews but boy were we in for a surprise. This place is in dire need of a facelift for starters. Second, we waited almost 15 minutes at the front desk before someone finally showed up to check us in. Our room had an musty smell to it in fact, the entire floor wreaked of cigarettes despite having a non-smoking room. Out sheets appeared old and worn out and did not smell clean. We wanted to move to another room but the hotel was completely booked for the night. When asked if we could move to another room the following morning, we were told by the MANAGER who was very rude and snobbish we couldn't because we "only paied $80 for the room and her rooms were going for $120." I wouldn't recommend this property simply because of the rude manager.

Home away from home I had to recently and am currently staying in this hotel because of a personal situation, since I've been here it has been pleasurable, clean and the staff have been excellent as well as very empathetic to my situation. The specific staff that I must mention made me feel very welcome, when I am down they are always willing to converse with me and make me smile! let me see if I can spell their names correctly because they deserve a mention at the least....Lynette, Haley, Savannah, and Darrin!! You guys Rock and I would recommend this hotel to anyone!! Great job guys! I'm gonna to sad to go but life goes on!! IHG if your reading this these guys need a raise immediately!!!

Lounge Amenity Craig, who manages the lounge, is wonderfully charismatic and polite. Upon entering the lounge he greeted my family and I with a warm welcome and an award winning smile. Remained calm being able to refill food trays and clean up tables with seeming ease and grace. My stay was exponentially better being able to remember such a personable floor manager.
