Great place Staff are really nice from reception through to restaurant and gym, My room seemed to have quite a few long dark hairs, probably from cleaner as room was clean and very functional for the money Food was beautiful, absolutely no complaints, however lots of tables with plates of food, unattended and not cleared up quickly, even though staff were not very busy This place is excellent value for money so I’ll keep coming back

If your getting wasted and love noise you'll love it, if you like a good night's sleep steer clear Great location, beautiful pub off site close by would definitely visit the pub again. Hotel not so good, noise levels are horrendous. If your facing the main entrance noise from people screaming and shouting from taxis and cars in the car park, drunk smokers stood by the door singing and screaming till 3am staff do noting to quieten the noise levels for other guests. In fact they turn the phone off so you cannot ring down and when you attend the reception they are rude and cause confrontation with the drunken guests. Room was dusty, tv dirty and dry bogey stuck to the wall asked a staff member for a cloth who was cleaning carpets to which I cleaned myself. We visited the spa I pointed out the hot tub was not working as we paid, for the staff member to say oh yer hot tubs broke before you pay. Steam room and sauna OK, seating area round the pool abit dicey the cushions on the chairs slide down when you sit on them, not the best spa experience but cheap enough. Breakfast was a buffet, bacon was extremely fatty, sausages cheap tasting and the black pudding was rock hard. Staff contradict themselves and tend to stick together when it comes to complaints. Much nicer hotels at the same rate that respect all guests not just the boisterous ones. If you love rowdy loud drunks keeping you awake or are sinking enough to not have your sleep disturbed it's the place for you. If you prefer a nicer ambiance and a good night's sleep steer clear.

Be sure to check if there is a function on during your stay! We only booked the hotel as had an early morning flight from Newcastle. Room was actually a lot better than I expected after reading awful reviews, dated but clean and functional with a decent shower. However, given we had to be up at 4 am, the intention was to have an early night. But that wasn’t to be with our room being what felt like above the function room, where a wedding was taking place. This was fine for the guests at the wedding but we weren’t even asked while checking in if we were attending the wedding. Our room was actually vibrating from the noise of the music until late and I only got a couple hours sleep. Didn’t know if I wanted to laugh or cry being in a hotel in Newcastle being kept awake to Ant and Decs ‘let’s get ready to rumble’! I’d have been better off saving my money and sleeping in the car somewhere. Definitely Won’t be booking again!

The not-so-grand Grand Hotel… The Grand Hotel. Not so much. I booked without looking really, I know, my bad! Never again. Although I got it cheap on booking.com, I wish I hadn’t. The staff, very friendly, and very helpful, getting more tea and milk in the middle of the night was no problem, however, the room. I informed them that I had walking and mobility problems, with arthritis, not being able to walk long distances, and it was down two flights of stairs, nobody told me to use the lift, along a corridor, up half a flight of steps, through what looked like a basement, then up 6 steps, and around the corner to another five steps, then the krypton factor of finding my room. I finally get there, open the door, and I was shocked at finding the smallest room in the world. It was clean however, but when I stood where the bed was, I could touch both walls either side, the shower was bigger! It was a single room, but it felt like a prison cell. It was cramped, no wardrobe so I couldn’t hang anything up, it was too hot, and there was a decidedly not nice smell lingering until I opened the tiny window the half a crack that I could. The shower was nice, and the bathroom clean, however, not grand at all. The food was overly expensive and very limited, the tea in the hotel bar was nice, but at nearly £5 for a small pot and a dribble of milk, I think not. So, would I recommend it? No. Would I stay there again? Hell no. Book at your peril. You have been warned…

Terrible experience Joke of a hotel, about time these hotels started thinking quality instead of quantity. First room I was given was a disgrace, so small it made a prison cell look luxurious. Room I got moved to was only slightly better. Instead of adding so many box rooms to cram guests you should think of the quality of their stay. Plywood walls which let every bit of noise in , guests having to walk such a distance to their rooms in the dungeon it would frighten a hardened zombie who is used to walking. Not the best of hotels
