What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Pro Performance Pittsburgh is Pittsburgh's only training facility that features instructors that are current or former Professional players! We treat each player individually so you will not walk out of your lesson learning the same technique as everyone else! Why train with anyone but the PROS!
Born as the Greentree Racquet Club, Greentree SportsPlex underwent extensive renovation to emerge as an 80,000-square-foot, multi-sport facility. Free weights, kettlebells, and Legend Fitness weight machines line the bright red walls. Meanwhile, a batting cage comes in handy during onsite lessons that cover the fundamentals of playing baseball and softball, as well as surviving the uprising of pitching machines. During boot camps, instructors lead their groups through obstacle courses, core work, and whole-body exercises on the indoor turf. They also motivate clients during personal-training sessions and group fitness classes, including Zumba dance aerobics and spinning sessions set to energy-packed music.
Stop N Sock's owners have transformed their corner of New Brighton into a family-friendly labyrinth of golf-inspired games. Their expansive outdoor facility—with 43 acres of rolling greens—allows adults and kids to putt and ricochet balls around the 18-hole golf course lined with trees, shrubs, and spouting fountains, or toss tiny saucers into metal baskets at disc golf. With short links and wide fairways, their pitch-and-putt course lets kids develop interest in golf, and challenges experienced club swingers to hone their short game. Stop N Sock's driving range, however, gives everyone the opportunity to work on their long game, with 27 stations equipped with grass practice areas and automatic ball dispensers. To mix it up, the golf-centric center's batting cages lets individuals solidify their stance, perfect their focus, and keep the rust and barnacles off their swing.

Q&A with Doug Dowell, Teacher
What makes your business stand out?
Golf lessons are based upon the students experience, physical capabilities, equipment, and ability to practice. There is not one golf swing for everyone. We all have our own swing that we have developed over time. Video is available and can be used. Scheduling is very easy and can be done almost anytime.
What inspired you or the owner (if that’s not you) to start or run this business?
Love of the game of golf and the desire to
introduce as many people as possible to a lifetime of enjoyment. Also, the immediate gratification that one gets from teaching and sharing like experiences.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Interaction with all types of people and sharing their enjoyment in learning the game of golf.
