Gordon Franks and Pat Worley are more than black belts. They’re ninth-degree black belts who share their chosen martial art with youngsters and adults alike through USA Karate, the school they cofounded. The school - which opened in 1973 and has been operating for more than 40 years - was featured on the local CBS station and teaches self-defense techniques that help students graduate to higher-level belts and translate into increased agility, coordination, and self-confidence.
The Rumriver Art Center gives all kinds of folks a place where they can flex their creative muscle and try something new. Kids and adults can learn everything from drawing their favorite superheroes or Tolkien characters to constructing meticulous stained glass arrangements. Kids can enroll in after-school classes, and adults can take in Friday night sessions, enjoying the conviviality of the studio and the satisfaction of creating something by hand. And more established artists can even rent out studio space.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
I, myself, am always learning. I want to learn with my clients as well as give them the confidence needed to apply their own makeup. I have a different kind of training than most and believe my special set of skills will stand out more than most other's would.
Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
Depending on which package is chosen, I will provide all makeup needed for application or I will use the clients own makeup to demonstrate how they can apply their own makeup of choice.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
I was very self conscience growing up. Makeup made me feel beautiful and gave me a new sense of my artistic ability. I fell in love with the confidence that shined through with all of my different makeup looks!
What do you love most about your job?
I love the look on individuals faces when they look in the mirror for the first time after wearing a different style of makeup.
