  • New York Talks & Walks & Ghosts of NY
Groups of tourists walk past the current dwelling places of some of the area’s notable residents, such as Addison Cairns Mizner, Paul Ilyinsky, and Henry Morrison Flagler. Unlike the case with traditional celebrity-sighting tours, however, all of these men died decades ago. Their spooky hauntings frame the path of Ghosts of Palm Beach’s walking tours, during which knowledgeable guides share local folklore and paranormal encounters. Stops can include everything from Palm Beach Town Hall to high-fashion shops such as Gucci, Chanel, and Saks Fifth Avenue, where the ghosts still try to buy handbags for a dollar and two bits.

  • Hampton Designer Showhouse Foundation, Inc.
In 1926, Irving Brokow commissioned noted architectural firm Walker & Gillett to build a grand house in Mill Neck, New York. The 1920s attorney, who later became an international figure skater, artist, and author, envisioned an imposing property. As a result, the firm created a classic English Regency manor house that wouldn't look out of place on an English earl's vast estate. The manor house eventually became the office of The Christopher D. Smithers Foundation in 1976. In 2015, the foundation donated the house to the Hampton Designer Showhouse Foundation Inc. so it could be used as the "Home Is Where The Heart Is" Designer Showhouse. A team of more than 20 of New York's top interior designers, decorative artists, and landscapers then took over, re-decorating the house's various rooms and transforming the grounds into a lush oasis. From April 17 to May 31, visitors can wander through the revamped red-brick-and-limestone structure and marvel at its impressive columns extending to the roof, S-curve floating staircase, nine bedrooms, and 11 bathrooms. Those remodeling their own spaces can also get an idea of which designer might fit their aesthetic. Proceeds from the gala and the subsequent home tours benefit the American Heart Association?hence the "Home Is Where the Heart Is" moniker.
