Established: 2010 Reservations/Appointments: Required Staff Size: 2–10 people Average Duration of Services: 30–60 minutes Brands Used: We supply all necessary equipment for players to participate Pro Tip: Please wear athletic shoes and bring a water bottle. Buddies, parents, and guardians come prepared to participate Handicap Accessible: Yes Parking: Parking lot Recommended Age Group: Kids When it comes to coaching, owners of Boom Sports Guy and Traci have all the credentials you'd expect. Tracy played 15 years of basketball at the competitive level, including Division 1 college ball, and Guy was all-state in soccer. But it's their academic backgrounds that give them the edge, especially since many of the players they coach are only 18 months old. The duo holds degrees in psychology and neuroscience, and Traci is a qualified early childhood development teacher. They draw on their dual passions to help little ones develop motor and social skills with sports-based games and stories. For older kids ages 4–10, Traci and Guy focus on fundamentals of football, basketball, and soccer—a sport the rest of the world calls goal-ball. The focus in these classes is to build up not only athletic skill, but also the confidence needed to tryout for and play on a team. Throughout any given week of classes, the coaches work on five to six fun activities, each demanding an increasingly deft touch. This approach gets kids acclimated with such skills as ball control or shooting technique in a non-intimidating, non-competitive way.

  • Civic Center Park
Held in honor of former North Carolina State University women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, the 4Kay Run raises proceeds for breast-cancer research through the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. During her 38-year career as a Division I head coach, Kay racked up 700 victories, a feat accomplished by only five of her peers. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, but went on to lead the U.S. women’s basketball team to a gold medal in the 1988 Olympics. Kay continued to fist-punch her way through the glass ceiling until her passing in 2009.

  • Jumpoline Park
At the Jumpoline Park, the whole family can escape from the everyday stresses of work, school, and gravity. Decked out in rainbow colors, the trampolines send jumpers soaring into the air, giving them the feeling of walking on the moon, where the surface is made of inner-spring mattresses. Jumping teams lob balls at each other in high-flying games in the dodgeball area, and kids age 7 and under leap safely in their own section, protected from injury by padded walls. But this enclave doesn't house just trampolines. Toddlers play in their own soft-surface area, while parents relax under the skilled hands of in-house massage therapists. During breaks, everyone meets up at the coffee shop for a snack or a cup of frozen yogurt.
