In 2007, Jessi Walter Brelsford founded Taste Buds Kitchen, envisioning cooking classes for all ages that were fun and didn't make preparing food seem like a chore. Her vision came to successful fruition, launching Taste Buds into a national franchise. The kitchens host kids' camps, workshops, and classes during the day, getting budding chefs to learn how to prepare ingredients, decorate gingerbread houses, and bake treats for Cookies for Kids' Cancer, a charity that provides research grants to pediatric cancer centers.
After little ones have their fun, the kitchen literally transforms for grownup students, lifting tables and chairs that were once kid-height to accommodate even the tallest adults (Jessi is 6'1" and her husband is 6'5"). All adult classes, including Tailgating 101 and Tapas Españolas, are BYOB, meaning students can feel free to unwind and socialize as they learn new tricks of the culinary trade. The kitchen can also host private parties that range from bachelorette gatherings to product launches.
An FAA-approved helicopter-flight tour operator, Boston Helicopters employs five licensed instructors with combined flight and teaching experience that numbers in the thousands of hours. Fledgling aviators can begin their aeronautical journeys at Lawrence and Marlboro Airports, which serve as home bases for services that range from tours and photography flights to full pilot-certification courses and agricultural applications. The team commands a fleet of six Robinson helicopters, including one R44 and five R22s, and keeps Robinson factory-trained mechanics on staff to ensure their safe operation and to ice down their blades after particularly vigorous training flights.
A biplane’s mechanized propellers whir. A satellite spins on its axis. Such are the Lego inventions of students enrolled in Bricks 4 Kidz’s after-school program. The blueprints for these miniature gadgets spring from the mind of Michelle Kote, who saw the potential for Legos to introduce young learners to architecture, engineering, and science. She draws upon her own background as an architect to create model plans for Lego creations with kid-friendly themes such as amusement parks, famous buildings, and outer space. Students work together in small groups to replicate these models, honing their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills along the way.
