  • Broadway Coffeehouse
Dedicating themselves to the unique pleasures of a cup of freshly roasted, skillfully brewed joe, Broadway Coffeehouse's baristas stay local, using beans from renowned Portland roaster Stumptown Coffee and stacking the display case with pastries from Salem's Great Harvest Bread Co. The Oregonian aromas of the specialty brews and warm desserts fill the spacious café, whose expansive windows and crackling fireplace bathe the cushy couches and armchairs in natural light. A second-floor skyway overlooks the main seating area, and youngsters frolic in a family area while older people talk business in private conference rooms. In the warmer months, guests sit outdoors under the shade of patio umbrellas, safe from the sun's periodic spills of scalding-hot coffee.

  • Bellagio's Pizza
Bellagios Pizza, locally owned and operated since 1996, brews ripe batches of tomato sauce and tosses fresh disks of dough daily at their Wilsonville location, while crews at each restaurant sprinkle pies with delicious toppings to create a menu loaded with pizzas, grinders, and calzones. Heaps of spinach, artichokes, and juicy tomatoes guide wandering bellies out of the desert with the Oasis pizza ($10?$19.99), while the Butcher Block throws a crust-top party of salami, pepperoni, canadian bacon, and italian sausage ($10?$19.99), coming together in hearty harmony like a chorus of lumberjacks. Diners interested in a wider variety of toppings or in teaching children about medieval class structure can opt for a pie cleanly divided down the middle, such as a half-cheese, half-pepperoni pizza ($8?$17.99). Slathered with pizza sauce and adorned with meaty toppings, the Bellagio grinder ($5.99) competes with a host of calzones ($10.99) for the silver medal to the pizza menu's gold.

  • The Meating Place
In 1993, Casey Miller got his first job at The Meating Place, a local meat market that first opened in 1974. Then a freshman in high school, Casey started sweeping up the Hillsboro butcher's shop part-time, but by graduation, he had worked his way into an assistant-manager position. The shop closed its doors in 1998, but Casey and original owner Steve Crossley teamed up to reopen the custom meat-cutting business and showcase meat exclusively sourced from area farms. Following family recipes, the butchery smokes all sorts of proteins, including beer sausage, salmon, and jerky, and carves sustainably raised beef and pork into custom cuts or busts of George Washington. Hunters and fishermen also turn over their own wild game for The Meating Place pros to process. Butchers grind locally sourced alpaca meat, fresh or smoked bones, and seasonal vegetables into raw dog food that makes pets' coats shine and teeth glisten while also encouraging healthy digestion.
