Q&A with Kim, General Manager/Owner Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated? We have a smaller membership so that gives us the ability to know everyone's goals and we follow up and call our members to make sure they are doing well to reach their goals. We offer customized personal training for each individual member. What's the most radical physical transformation you've seen a client make? We have multiple members who have lost more than 100 pounds. But it's also great to see the confidence and swagger members have once they lose the first 10 pounds. Besides working out, what else can clients do to spend their time at your facility? We offer yoga, Zumba, boot camps, and one-on-one personal training. Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover? We are a special club. We truly want our members to use the club and reach their fitness goals. We also trust every member with a key so they can workout 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in over 1,500 Snap Fitness centers throughout North America.

  • Cross Fit San Elijo
"I consider sacred the bond of trust that develops over time with our athletes, forged by sound direction, collaboration, and real, lasting results," says Erik Preston, owner and head trainer at CrossFit San Elijo. The ex-Marine recruited a team of instructors who work to forge a sense of community among its members through rigorous shared effort of their group workouts. Instructors teach athletes foundational movements during an initial class before embarking on daily workouts where they’ll hoist kettlebells, master gymnast’s rings, and walk with 45-pound weights. Every exercise is rigorously monitored, as instructors insist on proper form while students execute core exercises of squat, press, and lift. Along with emphasizing sound mechanics, instructors help copilot participants toward healthier eating habits and recovery techniques.

  • San Marcos Yoga
Kathleen Quinn took her time with the practice of yoga. Though she had her first yoga class more than 30 years ago, she didn?t really delve into the practice until 1996. Boasting certification and a degree from the IYNAUS Assessment Board, she owns and teaches at San Marcos Yoga and works with another certified yoga instructor, Nancy Ito. Together they help students improve their balance, strength, flexibility, and ability to mimic a table during charades. Using the progression of poses arranged by yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar, the instructors adapt their lessons to each student?s ability, and help the practice become a personal one. While lessons are adapted to skill, the instructors do offer an intro class and level-one, level-two, and level-three classes. They also stock the studio with blocks and blankets that may be used during classes.
