  • Central Cinema
Glance at the upcoming features list at Central Cinema and you'll find a refreshing lineup of old favorites, cult classics, foreign films, and new indie features that Seattle moviegoers might not track down anywhere else. Who knows, you may even spot a live performer, who blends music and other art with projections onto the movie screen. But that's not the only thing that's different about the theater. Each show only takes place after Central Cinema's signature dine-in service, which elevates the traditional concession stand to the level of a sit-down restaurant. During the pre-show feature (typically a short film or cartoon), servers make their way through the theater, where tables and menus sit in front of each audience member. After taking orders, they head to the kitchen just like Tom Hanks in Efficient Service, and then chefs cook everything from naan to braised short ribs to creme brulee. Of course, Central Cinema still serves up movie favorites like popcorn—made organic with real butter—and entire plates filled with assorted candy, all of which they make in house. The homemade ethos also extends to drinks: bartenders mix up craft cocktails between pours of wine and beer.
