  • The Brazos Drive-in Theatre
Since 1952, the family-operated lot at The Brazos Drive-in Theatre has invited carloads of movie-lovers to kill their engines, tune their radios to 89.1 FM, and recline as far as their seats allow for the evening?s double features. The historic theatre is the longest continually running drive-in in Texas, and was almost obliterated near to its 50th anniversary when a tornado rampaged through the lot, ripping half of the screen apart and saving the audience from a Rob Schneider film. Refurbished to its former glory, the recently upgraded digital screen now lights up against the darkening sky to show premier films.

  • North Texas Stampede
In 2012, the Stampede pulled off an unlikely upset when they toppled the seemingly unbeatable Collin County Rattlers in the third annual Shanklin Bowl, capturing their first Minor Professional Football League championship. The victory brought glory to Bedford, where the team plays all of its home games at Pennington Stadium—a 12,500-seat multipurpose venue that also hosts many of the area's biggest high-school games. To stay in touch with the surrounding community, the Stampede, now a member of the Professional American Football League, resist the urge to toss tin-can walkie-talkies into random open windows and instead raise awareness on issues through frequent outreach efforts.

  • NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship
In remembrance of North Carolina State University women's basketball coach Kay Yow, the annual 4Kay run recruits a stampede of pavement pounders to speed through straightaways in support of cancer research. An estimated 3,000 fleet feet will tip off the 2011 NCAA Women's Final Four as they traverse the 2.49-mile home of the famed Indianapolis 500, making pit stops to refuel and check ankle pressure. Walkers are also encouraged to participate at their own comfortable pace during this rain-or-shine event. On race day, the first 500 Groupon participants to check in will receive a complimentary short-sleeve Nike T-shirt for quick changes after a victorious finish-line sports-drink bath.
