  • Get Real Belgian Festival
Barbecue ribs with a smoky rauchbier. A melon salad with a dark doppelbock. The folks behind Get Real Presents specialize in pairings like these, sharing the joys of craft beer and delicious, locally-sourced foods. In this spirit, its team of foodies and beer aficionados hosts festivals featuring more than 80 brews, as well as restaurant events that pair craft beer with regional foods. As unique as it sounds, they admit this isn't exactly a new idea—they take a page from other countries, such as Belgium, who actually anchor much of their cuisine around the effervescent beverage. Following this "cuisine a la biere" model, they aim to highlight all of the great things a freshly crafted brew can do to enhance an evening out on the town, such as highlighting the flavors of a complementary dish, spicing up a local chef's stew, or softening your dad to the idea of paying off all of your student loans.

  • Full Bunny Contact
A slightly dystopic Easter spirit pervades the entire Full Bunny Contact carnival. For more irreverent fun, carnival-goers can Shoot The Peep—a human dressed in a giant Peep costume—or sit on the Insult Easter Bunny's lap. There's also a dance floor where visitors can get their Easter groove on, and for sustenance, concession stands and a bar. In Full Bunny Contact's namesake game, the Easter bunny is not participants' fuzzy, festive friend. Instead, three towering Easter Bunnies chase players trapped in a caged-in field with them for 40 seconds. The players try to gather foam eggs that are redeemable for cash, candy, and prizes; the bunnies try to thwart them. It's a 40-second-long war.

  • Global Citizen Festival
Many music festivals raise funds for charity. However, Global Citizen knows that real change is about much more than money. That's why the organization awards points to attendees who take action, whether through signing petitions, buying fair-trade products, or contacting representatives. These points can then be exchanged for tickets to concerts by philanthropic artists such as Beyonce, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, and Dixie Chicks. It's all part of Global Citizen's goal to end extreme global poverty by 2030. Although that may seem like a lofty dream to some, the non-profit's website points out an astounding statistic: "Extreme poverty has been halved in the last 25 years. Our generation can end it."

  • Holiday House NYC
November in New York. Outside, the winds turn cold, the days grow short, and minds drift to thoughts of holiday cheer. Inside, at the historic Academy Mansion, designers bustle with activity. If it's fall in the city, Holiday House NYC can't be far behind. This annual designer showhouse brings the world's top interior designers and architects to this famed Art Deco mansion, where they transform spaces with designs pulled inspired by the holiday season. Founded by Iris Dankner in 2008 to raise breast cancer awareness, the show has quickly become a cherished event among the city’s design community. With proceeds from all ticket sales going to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation through Iris’s very own non-profit, Mission in Pink, Inc., Holiday House became the first designer showhouse held in New York City to benefit a breast cancer organization. Since its inception, Holiday House has showcased some of the top designers, architects, and artists in the industry, received critical acclaim from such outlets as Huffington Post and Forbes, been endorsed by some of the most celebrated global luxury brands, and expanded to a summer showhouse in the Hamptons. About the Academy Mansion: The solid, monastery-like town house was an anomaly, compared with other grand Upper East Side residences appearing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1919, Mr. Ziegler contracted architect Frederick Sterner to design a mansion on the site of three old brownstones on East 63rd Street, just off of Fifth Avenue. The 75 foot wide mansion is one of the last remaining of its kind in Manhattan.

  • Queen of the Night
There isn't nearly enough space on a single web page to reiterate the acclaim that publications nationwide have showered upon Queen of the Night. But here's a taste: "No contemporary word captures the kind of entertainment [this show] is aiming for," gushed Vanity Fair. Reporters at The New York Times note that in this piece, "the role of the spectator is turned inside out." Why has there's been so much to say about the show? Well, because there's a lot to see. Held in the long-dormant Diamond Horseshoe, the born-again nightclub beneath the Paramount Hotel, Queen is a layer cake of theater, dance, fashion, food, and even personal exploration. Upon entry, you'll be quite literally pulled in one direction or another by a performer—likely away from whomever you arrived with—and lured through a labyrinthine exhibition where you might encounter magic tricks or knife throwing. And erotica. Not for the faint of heart, attendees have been asked to do everything from reading aloud to kissing a performer on the neck. Perhaps the lavish meal of whole suckling pig, lobster, or giant beef ribs can be considered the audience's reward.
