Without exercise, children will never build the strength to cut their own sandwich crusts or throw each other onto the roof to retrieve their frisbees. Foster childhood vigor with this Groupon.

The fourth annual KidsBash! street festival fosters kid-sized fun on Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Ghirardelli Square. Child admission includes access to all rides, games, activities, and live entertainment; adults attend for free. While this event is geared toward children ages 10 and younger, all members of the family are welcome.

Few street festivals pair rock climbing and train riding with charity. Fewer still are designed solely with children in mind. But at KidsBash! the brick plazas of Ghirardelli Square become a realm ruled by youth, with a bounce house serving as the main castle and live entertainment standing in for a court of jesters. Unhindered by royal duties and every palace's inside-voices rule, these pint-sized kings and queens can vie for prizes at games or even adopt a persona outside the monarchy at a face-painting station. There they can have a colorful animal grace their cheek or a red fire helmet to pay homage to the San Francisco Fire Department, which joins the celebration to show off their bright red trucks and full uniforms.

To keep adult eyes entertained while the children lose themselves in play, an ever-expanding list of local vendors such as Aquarium of the Bay, Children's Fairyland, and Infantes Boutique tout their wares. And underlying the festivity is a good cause. Proceeds go to event organizer Plum Organics' social impact program, The Full Effect, which donates organic baby food to underserved children across the country.

The square is a great place to listen to music, take in a spectacular view, try some amazing cupcakes, or go for the traditional ice cream/chocolate.
