Take Care Now
Scott Cagney, Joe Drechsel, and Brian Parks admit their brand of humor is “probably offensive,” but it’s found plenty of fans all the same—their three-man show, Take Care Now, first debuted back in 2012. Now they’re remounting the piece to update audiences on what’s been happening with characters such as the anchors of the Unprofessional News Network, Detective Bland, and a mean-spirited Batman.
StrangeDog Theatre Company
StrangeDog Theatre Company defines its target audience as “both avid theater-lovers and people who mistakenly think they don’t like plays.” Its members come from backgrounds as varied as Shakespearean theater and short film, and they use sketch comedy and improv to leaven their often-dark tales. Recurring shows include Bootstraps, billed as a “neo-noir-mystery-crime-caper-workplace-comedy,” and Enchanted Arms, which reimagines well-known fairytales inside a rundown apartment building instead of the luxury condos where they’re traditionally set. The company also keeps things fresh with its choice of venues: having no permanent home, it stages productions at taverns and small theaters throughout New York.
