Needles click at therapist-founded, communal knitting haven where up to five knitters learn basics & make scarves or sweater vests

Aristotle was the first to write that what separates man from beast is not our ability to reason but rather our ability to use yarn and needles to knit our own books. Craft your own copy of Poetics with today's Groupon: for $10, you get one beginner or advanced-beginner class at Knit One (a $25 value). Groupon customers can also get 10 percent off merchandise and materials on the day of the class.

Founded by licensed therapist Dr. Stacey, Knit One focuses on the communal and therapeutic aspects of knitting, serving as a hub where scarves and sweaters materialize from beginner-brandished needles. Skeins unwind for two hours in the beginner class as up five students who have never picked up a needle learn the basics of knitting and purling while fashioning warm scarves. During the two-hour advanced-beginner class, pupils who already know how to knit and purl fabricate vests, learning more complex techniques, such as how to follow a pattern, shape armholes and necks, and count stitches in Swahili. Both classes are held Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

About Knit One

Knit One focuses on the communal and therapeutic aspects of knitting, welcoming new or established lovers of the fiber arts to practice their craft in a space dedicated to camaraderie and companionship. Whether they're knitting scarves or crocheting a new motorcycle cover, guests can stock up on high-quality needles, yarns, and supplies within the open, airy shop.

Materials are only one part of life at Knit One, though. Guests frequently bring projects with them, settling into comfortable sofas for an afternoon of work and idea swapping. Balls of yarn also unravel in small classes, where students let the day's stress melt away as socks, headbands, and tea cozies come into fruition. No matter what the reason for their visit, customers can count on the shop's knowledgable staff for everything from expert knitting tips to customer service assistance.
