What an excellent steak we had! Totally delicious and terrific band!
  • Dry-aged steaks
  • Extensive wine list
  • Live jazz nightly
  • Historic Fitzpatrick's Saloon Building

Before the competition got fierce, Prohibition-era gangsters settled their disputes with Nerf-gun shootouts and steak-eating contests. Today's Groupon takes you back to those days of romantically reckless meat-munching: for $20, you get $40 worth of jazz-infused fine dining and drinks at The Majestic Restaurant in the Fitzpatrick's Saloon Building downtown. If you redeem your Groupon Sunday–Thursday, you will also receive a $5 gift card for use toward breakfast at The Majestic.

The Majestic's dinner menu centers heavily on its regal array of hefty steaks dry-aged to perfection. Hand your taste buds the crown and scepter with a starter of crab cakes in whole-grain stout mustard cream sauce ($12) or a charcuterie and cheese plate hand-picked by the chef ($14). For the main event, order a 16 oz. T-bone ($38.50), a 6 oz. filet mignon ($32), or a trio of grilled lamb chops ($28). If you're worried about offending your talking bovine blind date, the grilled salmon with beurre blanc ($25) or chicken fettuccini alfredo ($22) provide equally tidal waves of taste. Whatever the meal, The Majestic's extensive wine list and signature cocktails from bartender Shawn Moriarty will lubricate the larynx of any bon vivant, with a selection featuring more than 80 varietals, including Tilia merlot ($8 a glass, $30 bottle) and a bottle of Veritable Quandary ($32). Homemade desserts ($7) of toffee bread pudding with crème anglaise or apple crisp with cinnamon-caramel ice cream will top off a night of savory slabs, worldly wines, flirtatious frippery, and sensual knife games.

Stepping into The Majestic transports diners back into the jazz era without the vicissitudes of a matter/antimatter-powered wormhole generator. The dining area is nestled between the original pressed-tin ceiling and the blue-and-white-tiled floors, and lined with a long, mirrored bar of polished wood. The Majestic's days as a speakeasy can still be heard emanating from the circa-1910 piano, where jazz musicians play every evening. Bring a date, friend, or favorite UPS deliveryman and savor the savories among The Majestic's historic atmosphere with today's Groupon.

Reviews

OpenTablers give The Majestic four stars, and nine Yelpers give it three. The Pitch gives a qualified rave, and a whopping 92% of Urbanspooners recommend it.

  • At our server Will's suggestion, I ordered the 16-ounce T-bone, and it was a hell of a slab of beef: tender, loaded with flavor and grilled precisely as I had requested. Carol had a thick hunk of grilled yellowfin tuna, topped with a button of delicately seasoned wasabi butter that had just the right degree of head-clearing punch. "The vegetables, the potato — everything's perfect," Carol Ann raved. – Charles Ferruzza, The Pitch
  • We found the Majestic Restaurant to be all we hoped for and more…quintessential urban downtown. We like the entire experience. The food was very good and the atmosphere delightful. – OpenTable user who dined on 2/13/10
  • What a great old place this is! The piano was going strong when we arrived; had a nice cocktail appetizer and listened for a while. 2 specials Thursday night, grilled swordfish with mashed - 2 beef medallions…both were delicious! Swordfish had an avacado [sic] sauce that complimented the fish nicely, nothing overpowering. Great service. Very pleased this re-opened. – Jason, Urbanspoon

About The Majestic Restaurant

In the long, narrow dining room of the historic Majestic Restaurant, one wouldn't have a hard time imagining the spirited saloon that once resided there. Behind the restored 19th-century bar and under a pressed-tin ceiling, barkeeps shake, stir, and pour classic craft cocktails alongside more than 200 types of whiskey. Downstairs, a speakeasy-style jazz club features live performances nearly every night of the week, which are best enjoyed while wearing Prohibition-era garb such as top hats filled with beer. Both the main dining room and downstairs club serve a full dinner menu of tender steaks, cold-water lobster tails, and classically prepared Scottish salmon.
