Though breaking bread brings friends together, it tears bread apart. Savor disassembling loaves with today's Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of baked goods and deli fare at National Bakery & Deli. This Groupon is valid at locations in Brookfield, Greendale, and Milwaukee.
The bakers at National Bakery & Deli rise early each morning to bake fresh bread, pastries, and cakes. Patrons begin the day with soft donuts ($0.69–$0.99) or break free from the shackles of social convention with dinner rolls for breakfast ($4.32 for a dozen). Customers can adorn sandwiches with slices of the deli's baked ham ($6.29/lb.) or sink forks into sumptuous marble cakes ($16.58+) topped with cream or icing and filled with fruit, custard, or the baker's secret ingredients of love and science. In addition to mainstays such as cookies and tortes, the bakery preps seasonal goods including pumpkin pies and heart-shaped Santa cakes made with love by the bakers' turkey-shaped hands.
National Bakery & Deli
Glass cases and racks of fresh bread dominate National Bakery & Deli’s three locations, which bake all of their goods fresh daily. Founded in 1925, the bakery continually recreates classic recipes for a menu that includes glazed doughnuts, frosted cookies, and cherry-filled coffee cake, as well as hard rolls and french bread. Deli fare includes baked ham, seasonal polish sausage, and several varieties of potato salad. In addition to their staples and custom cake orders, the bakery creates seasonal specialties that range from spring’s grasshopper pie and irish soda bread to winter’s gingerbread men and icy snowman souls. Every Mardi Gras, the bakery churns out piles of prune- and raspberry-filled paczki in a celebrated rush that has drawn great press—though patrons can make every Tuesday fat by perusing their year-round paczki selection.
With over a dozen options for fresh bread and a copious amount of deli meats and cheeses, patrons can customize their sandwiches.Angela Damiani, Greendale Patch, 3/31/11
