A day at an amusement park gives children a memory of pure joy that will sustain them through adulthood's dreary parade of office meetings, grocery-store riots, and haunted amusement parks. Indulge children both inner and outer with today's Groupon: for $17, you get an AMPventure all-you-can-ride wristband for one day of unlimited access to all rides plus a one-time tour through the new AMPventure Experience adventure course at Old Town in Kissimmee (up to a $34.95 value). Today's Groupon does not include access to the go-karts, laser tag, or bumper cars.
Old Town outfits its amusement park with a retro vibe and 14 rides and roller coasters for burning off the human body's excess screams of delight. The brand-new Pepsi-sponsored AMPventure Experience boosts thrills with an adventure course encompassing a four-story ropes challenge, zipline, 35-foot climbing wall, and everything else one needs to train for a prison break. Adrenaline junkies can brave the 80-degree banks and 1,437 feet of serpentine steel track of the Windstorm roller coaster, or inch into the sky on the Super Shot before suddenly dropping into free fall from 150 feet. Those seeking more relaxed thrills can take a spin on the old-fashioned merry-go-round, the naturally decaffeinated teacup ride, or the Wacky Worm kiddie coaster. To take a break from the laws of physics, soak in a leisurely Godzilla’s-eye view of Orlando from the Century ferris wheel.
Old Town is firmly committed to its nostalgia-drenched retro style, with a calendar full of classic-car cruises every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday; live music on Friday and Saturday nights; and flag-sewing circle meetings on Monday. However, Old Town's restaurants range far beyond the typical theme-park grub, including gourmet Chinese, flavored popcorn, Big Kahuna’s burgers, and more.
Though Old Town sometimes offers a discounted price online, this Groupon still offers the best deal available. Rides are sometimes closed because of weather or regularly scheduled maintenance.
Gliding down a zipline, clambering through a four-story rope course, and scaling a 35-foot rock wall sounds like the components of a Survivor challenge, but these three activities are actually the components of AMPventure, Old Town’s newest entertainment complex. AMPventure expands the fun park to a total of 18 rides, which includes many theme-park staples. Patrons can zoom circuits around the go-kart track, enjoy peaceful views from the ferris wheel, or practice their ray-of-sunshine impressions during laser tag. While looking for rides reserved for youngsters only, such as the Frog Hopper, families wend their way through the park, stopping at stands vending treats from pizza and ice cream to Chinese fare. Four days a week, cruises entertain visitors who can watch dancers groove to live music while checking out classic cars almost as old school as the original car: a horse on roller skates.
