The only fitness pole-dancing studio in Ventura County, Poleates merges pole dance and Pilates techniques into one vigorous, empowering total-body workout. Each 90-minute shimmy session focuses on new moves and routines in addition to Pilates mat basics, helping to craft resilient upper and lower bodies and build solid cores capable of crunching coal into more coal. Greenhorn pole charmers can opt for a beginner class to gather the strutting, turning, and positioning basics, while more experienced dancers can practice dance transitions in the beginner/intermediate sessions. Pole aficionados ready to dazzle spectators with their master moves can sashay into the advanced class.
In under two years, what started as a humble boot camp founded by Taryn Landberg has grown into a full-blown fitness powerhouse. In addition to the signature camps, NASM-certified trainers lead a number of programs, each designed around specific goals. Classes range from basic group workout sessions that spur exercisers on with peer support to the Women's Elite Training, a CrossFit-style workout that focuses on strength building without the competitive atmosphere. Taryn's Transformation in 60 sessions incorporate her fitness and nutrition knowledge to get folks fit in two months by teaching them how to develop long-term lifestyle changes. No matter the program, Dream To Be Fit sticks closely to its founding principles, keeping class sizes small to avoid the impersonal atmosphere of big-box gyms.
Clarity, connection, and community. It's Yoga Everyone's philosophy, as they work with the belief that everyone—no matter their experience with yoga—can find clarity through a yoga practice. And in turn, this clarity yields authentic connections, both internally and with others, to help support a vibrant community. Yoga Everyone lives up to its name, thanks to classes for both kids, adults, and seniors, including social flexibility yoga for children with special needs such as autism. Adult classes range from basic beginner sessions and restorative yoga to cardio flow and Level II classes, and stand-alone meditation sessions include mindfulness and loving-kindness sessions. Specialty programs include therapeutic yoga care classes that cater to students with chronic conditions, clients recovering from surgery or illness, or those suffering from conditions such as high stress, sleep issues, or anxiety.
During her previous career as an interior designer, Dream To Be Fit owner Taryn Landberg spruced up rooms with an eye for artistry and a head for detail. Now a certified personal trainer, she applies the same dedication to form and function when renovating human physiques. When not busy plotting rigorous workouts and personalized nutritional programs for clients of all shapes, sizes, and ages, Taryn and her well-rounded team of trainers lead one-hour morning boot-camp fitness classes that shun routine to keep minds and muscles energized. She also stocks Dream To Be Fit's three locations with stimulating equipment that makes for creative exercises, inviting exercisers to torch calories by crawling through a foam pit, performing pull-ups on gymnastics rings, or shouting at a video of themselves ordering a pizza.
The classes at Agoura Fitness blur the line between dancing, exercising, and rehearsing jabs in the boxing ring. Instructors lead a wide variety of courses designed to burn calories, many of which are set to upbeat music. Zumba routines pull from Latin dance styles for a cardio workout, whereas TaeRobics sync martial arts drills with energizing beats. Yoga classes take a slower approach to wellness with balanced poses and stretches. Other classes on the curriculum include boot camp, interval training, boxing, and Extreme Cycling—a better way to make stationary biking fun than repeatedly asking "are we there yet?"
The gym is also stocked with free weights and cardio equipment, and visitors can take advantage of these with the help of a personal trainer, or during solo workouts as early as 4:30 a.m. on weekdays.
