  • An Infinite Mind
Jamie spent her entire life volunteering, working with preschool students who had special needs, terminally ill children, and survivors of sexual abuse. Then in 2005, she was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder (DID). After fruitless searches for support resources, she shifted her focus and humanitarian mindset toward helping people like herself, founding a peer-led support group for DID. That initial group evolved into An Infinite Mind, an organization dedicated to educating people about dissociative disorders and dispelling the stigmas attached to them. Advocates at An Infinite Mind write articles for journals, work with trauma organizations and public institutions to unearth the realities of living with a dissociative disorder, and speak as both survivors and trained trauma therapists to raise awareness across the country. As part of its expanding efforts to work with trauma survivors on the ground, An Infinite Mind also plans to connect people with therapists and help them find ways to cover the costs of treatment. • Have Hope Zumbathon
Zumba instructor Erica Pierce is widely recognized in the fitness world, but most of her clients know her by her avatar. While she leads students in her sweat-inducing Zumba sessions at her studio, her avatar leads cyber dance parties in homes throughout America in the videogame Zumba Fitness Rush for Xbox 360 Kinect. However, she attends the Have Hope Zumbathon in human form, working with a team of fellow instructors to lead a crowd of hundreds through her signature easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired moves without relying on pixels to provide her super-human endurance. Proceeds from the event benefit the Rhea of Hope Foundation, which hosts the event in tandem with Her Campus at UCF. The Foundation aims to enhance fertility options for men and women with cancer who would like to become parents.

  • Share The Care
Share the Care's five adult daycare centers provide activities within a safe, friendly environment for physically and cognitively impaired adults, including those with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease. Enrollees can stay at the center for anywhere from a few hours to the entire workday, and each center is staffed with on-site nurses and experienced care providers to ensure safety. To help improve the mental and physical health of its clients, Share the Care would like to incorporate the Xbox 360 with Kinect into their daily activities. Since it tracks body movements and does not require a controller, the Xbox 360 with Kinect can encourage mental and physical activity among aging or disabled adults. The system supports a variety of games that aim to improve balance and coordination through physical activity, which may also aid in decreasing symptoms of depression and loneliness.
