If everything lines up just right, you might hear the thunder of 240 pins tumbling at Windsor Bowl. True, that's not entirely likely?every day, the 24-lane alley welcomes bowlers of any skill level, whether they?re gathering for a pickup game or participating in one of the men?s, women?s, or junior leagues. Automatic scoring tallies up all your strikes and spares, while optional bumper rails keep balls from rolling into the gutter or off to a safe house where strangers won?t fling them at pins.

Bowling?s not the only thing that draws families to Windsor Bowl. Billiards tables and a large-screen TV await visitors in the lounge. Between there and the caf?, there are plenty of spaces to gather for post-game brews, slices of pizza, or even healthy garden salads.

From its serene country roads to its grassy hilltops, the Sonoma Valley’s wine country is a terrain best traversed by bike. The staff at Wine Country Cyclery facilitates these two-wheeled treks by renting, selling, and servicing cycles from Giant and Cannondale. Their rides cater to different types of excursions; the Giant Roam is ideal for leisurely jaunts, while the lightweight Cannondale SuperSix Evo lends itself to fast-paced sprints down tree-lined trails or away from the dryads that guard each vineyard. When riders need help navigating the countryside, seasoned guides hop on bikes and lead them on 12- to 18-mile adventures, stopping at local sites such as Roche Winery & Vineyards along the way.

Since 1961, Bamboo Reef has been unlocking the depths of the ocean by training scuba adventurers, outfitting them with gear and repairing equipment on the fritz. Skilled instructors guide swimmers during diving classes that range from paddling in an 82-degree pool to advanced night navigation in the Pacific's dunk tank. Refresher and specialty courses continue students’ aquatic education after they’ve mastered the basics of gliding through the deep blue. Bamboo Reef also coordinates dives off the shores of Monterey, Carmel, and international coasts that count toward specialty, advanced, and master diver ratings as well as black belts in underwater kickboxing.

The water wizards also rent and sell gear from brands such as Aqua Lung and Mares. Professional technicians—who maintain more than $10,000 in parts inventory—stand at the ready to repair all major brands of scuba equipment.
