With two locations, the Kirkwood Fitness and Racquetball Clubs allows guests of all fitness levels to work toward getting healthy with a range of amenities. Members can raise heart rates using cardio equipment, tone muscles during water aerobics classes, relax in the sauna, or sample a soothing yoga class. Personal trainers can work one-on-one with members to help customize a workout routine, or just supervise the overly confident free weights when they attempt to lift themselves.
Inside its expansive 7,500-square-foot facility, Vertical Extreme offers an all-weather haven for sharpening cliff-scaling skills and replenishing adrenaline stores. The deluxe intro-to-rock-climbing course gives patrons a leg up on gravity dominance with 30 minutes of fundamentals training, teaching new climbers the art of belaying, the best methods for climbing, and how to dodge a flash mob of mountain goats. The course includes harness, shoe, and chalk rental, allowing newly confident legs to traverse the vertical landscape for the remainder of the day, plus a two-week membership to continue practicing after the lesson. Experienced mountaineers can bypass training and opt for the five-visit pass, testing their persistence and plunger-shoes against the state-of-the-art facility's 40-foot-tall walls. Day-passers also receive an additional half off on gear-rental fees during their five mountain-conquering sessions.
