Running is a great way to stay healthy in general; it's also the only way to stay healthy if you're on the course of a 5KRunDead race. Each competitor is armed with flags, and as zombies nab them, they grow weaker. The fastest and nimblest get rewarded with prizes at the end. Zombies are rewarded with prizes, too, plus the fun of being transformed into genuinely gruesome creatures by pro makeup artists. Proceeds seek to spread good health far and wide—100% will benefit cancer and Alzheimer's research.

The event was extremely unorganized. They had two people doing the free zombie makeup and when we got in line there was about 80-100 people in front of us. We ended up standing in line for hours and when we got to the front of the line one of the artists had to leave for an event. Since we signed up to be zombies we stayed in line and the run started before we could get our makeup done. There was no one organizing the start the of the race and everyone was extremely confused on which way the route went. Everyone kinda just made up where to and go and when. They basically had high school volunteers running the thing and they kept apologizing for everything falling apart. Even the line to check in became hours long with 2 people checking everyone in. Good concept with extremely poor execution.
