Even from the outside, Cabana Bar & Grille looks stunning—a towering lakeside edifice crowned with handsome wood-beam awnings, surrounded by potted palms, and illuminated by the flames of outdoor fire pits. Past the gurgling fountain and cushioned furniture of the patio, hanging globes tie the indoor decor to the outdoor, spotlighting spacious leather booths and abstract artwork on the walls. In a lounge area, flat-screen TVs complement curtained walls between windows that, like giants peeking in from outside, yawn from floor to ceiling.
This vibrant and sophisticated setting creates a fitting backdrop for chef Diana Johnstone equally complex and upscale menu of internationally inspired dishes. Johnstone—a veteran of Top Chef Canada and Food Network's Chopped Canada —folds Okanagan seasonal ingredients into artisanal pizzas, pastas, and specialties. To complement the flavours of Alberta certified Angus beef, B.C. salmon, and local produce, the restaurant offers Okanagan wines and a colourful array of posh cocktails, including cosmopolitans with top-shelf vodka and mangojitos with fresh mint.
