I'm writing a long review because I was hesitant to go to Konrad's because of some of the negative reviews I saw on other websites, and my experience was so positive. Arrived at 5:00 on a Friday and had the outdoors to ourselves. Full up by the time we left. Enjoyed happy hour prices on drinks - pretty good cab for under $5. Being of Hungarian descent, I ordered goulash off the nightly specials menu, hubby had the Bavarian platter off the early bird specials list. Both chose the salad bar. "Only" 12 items on the salad bar - but wow! Choice of 2 lettuce bases, then fresh tomatoes, pineapple, and cantaloupe. The best part - 7 mini-salad choices - garbanzos, cucumbers, and carrots, each in their own tasty vinaigrette dressing; peas and pasta salad, each in a creamy dressing; grilled eggplant; and prime rib in a spicy barbecue sauce. Yep, prime rib. The beef in the goulash and the pork and bratwurst on the platter were all incredibly tender. Sides were very good, especially enjoyed the spatzle. To top it all off - divine apple strudel. Definitely going back - going to try the duck on a Tuesday. OBTW, I'm a local and this was my first, but not last trip to Konrad's. I do have to suggest to anyone trying Konrad's for the first time that you overlook the "tropical" in the restaurant's name - it's not your typical tropical venue. Some reviewers have said the décor is "tired." I saw it more as a typical comfortable, but not "fancy," neighborhood restaurant, one where the owner enthusiastically greeted arriving guests. And finally, Jesse was our waiter and he's excellent - convivial and he perfectly timed our meal.

It was an alright restaurant, very packed with people , so most must like it. Jaeger schnitzel was excellent, but red cabbage a bit mushy and some honeydew melon on the salad bar was punchy. Strudel pastry was tough. Not much attention to details like bent forks, half dead plants, empty salt shaker.
