I am not sure of the benefits of mineral waters, so perhaps the hot springs was more valuable than I recognize. However, my husband and I did not enjoy it very much. The mineral bath waters were cold, so the bath was lukewarm at best. Also, the baths were not cleaned after each use. No one was manning the bathhouses, either. The hot tub had chlorine in it, which I would guess would probably kill off the benefits of any mineral waters within it. Also, the food at the restaurant was not very tasty, and caused both my husband and me to feel sick--particularly surprising since he usually has an iron stomach. The employees, when they were around, were pleasant enough. Overall, unless you specifically desire the mineral baths for beneficial reasons, I would say not to waste your time, even if it's on the way as it was for us. I have been to other hot springs before and enjoyed them much more.

The mineral baths are free, what you pay for is the bath tubs and showers that are for one person. Not what we anticipated at all and not worth the scary drive to get there.

We had a great time, but it turns out that we didn't need to use the Groupon to experience the hot springs. They're free and open to public use. Glad we bought it, though--it brought us out to a place we would have never gone! We will be back. :)

From Our Editors

Since its founding in 1935, Mono Hot Springs Resort has housed the healing secrets of the mineral springs within its mountain-lined perimeter. After bunking in simple stone cabins complete with cozy fireplaces or staking out spots for tents perched atop wooden platforms, visitors can decamp to the onsite health spa, where massage therapists knead out kinks, and hot springs soothe aches with natural minerals.

A slew of outdoor activities feeds addictions to fresh air, challenging muscles to hikes along woodsy trails leading to the teetering boulder of Balancing Rock or gushing waters of Bear Diversion Dam. The waves of Doris Lake lap at a more leisurely pace, heated by the warm springs from which they spill and invite swimmers to take a dip. Lakes also host fishing and boating, and a nearby stable saddles up steeds for horseback riding. After finishing outdoor excursions or therapeutic soaks, guests can hunt for meal components in the general store or feast on buffalo ribs and mountain views on the restaurant's covered deck.
