  • $35 for three beginner drawing or watercolor painting classes (a $75 value)

The beginner drawing classes take place on the last Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Michael, the instructor, provides all of the necessary supplies. While working with dry mediums including graphite, he imparts basic rendering techniques and principles, such as one- and two-point perspective. Michael's three-hour watercolor painting class welcomes students of all skill levels every Friday from 9a.m. to 12p.m. For the first 1.5 hours of the class, Michael performs a live demonstration before diving into one-on-one instruction.

12th and S Art

Michael Mikalon's artwork ranges from fine art paintings to gestural pencil portraits. He's also a deft illustrator, capturing everything from cute animals and mythical beasts to human figures in motion. As the artist behind 12th and S Art, he demystifies the creative process by teaching classes to students of all skill levels. Under his direction, aspiring artists master basic techniques by painting still life themes such as food, flowers, and frozen bees or practice portrait painting and gesture drawing by observing live models.

Michael, the teacher, is great. He doesn't just watch you paint and offer tips, he goes over theory and basics so that you can actually make good art. It's a really relaxed and fun atmosphere.

I was very impressed with the lesson. Mike was very welcoming and has a real ability to communicate a difficult concept to a lot of people at once. It was a very pleasant experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn and have fun!
