About Autry Museum
With a new wing dedicated to Native Californians and the environment, the Autry Museum goes beyond cowboy culture to celebrate the many peoples, stories, and perspectives surrounding the American West.
Current exhibitions: Within two new exhibitions, Human Nature and The Life and Work of Mabel McKay, see extraordinary art and cultural materials, including many objects from the historic Southwest Museum of the American Indian Collection on view for the first time. Beyond the galleries, explore an ethnobotanical garden with more than 60 native plants and California Road Trip, an immersive media experience offering a virtual journey through the state’s most scenic and extreme landscapes, from the deserts to the coasts.
Size: The museum holds 500,000 pieces of art and artifacts from the history and culture of the American West
Eye Catcher: In the Imagination Gallery, visitors explore how the real Old West influenced the Western genre of movies and television, via items such as costumes from The Hateful Eight and artifacts from iconic cowboys
Pro Tip: Stage productions at the on-campus theater enhance understanding of this time period.
Special Programs: Monthly family events that highlight museum topics with hands-on activities.
