What You'll Get
Like the dimples of a smirking child, the dimples on a golf ball are much less cute during long drives that end up lost in the woods. Discipline simpering orbs with today's Groupon: for $69, you and a companion get to enjoy a round of golf with a cart at Bittersweet Golf Club in Gurnee (up to a $138 value). You'll also receive a large bucket of range balls if you play Monday-Thursday.
With 17 of its 18 verdant holes featuring in-play water hazards, the challenging yet fair links at Bittersweet Golf Club have earned its apropos moniker, as well as the Daily Herald's 2010 Readers' Choice Award. Mature hardwoods and wetlands stand guard over four tees as orbs assail formidable fairways, and groomed, game-bolstering bentgrass greens counteract any frustration experienced at tests such as the ninth hole, which bares the name "slim" despite being constantly full of gummy worms. To further increase player enjoyment, the course's toughest turns and landings were recently widened, persuading 3-woods to spend less time off to the side with their still-rooted ancestors.
Included carts for 18-hole explorations let golfers focus on their tee shots without the distraction of barking dogs protruding from each ankle. Although equipment and services are not included with today's Groupon, Bittersweet's pro shop and PGA pro staff outfit golfers with the skills and apparel to swing the sticks like their favorite pros.
This Groupon is not valid before 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Bittersweet Golf Club's rates fluctuate throughout the week and time of day; plan ahead to make sure you're redeeming your Groupon at the most opportune time.
