- $150 for $200 worth of designer fashions
Since opening his first boutique in SoHo in 2000, Calvin Tran has built a career many young designers would dream of—his work has been featured in the New York Times and Women's Wear Daily, he won an award from Fashion Group International, and he dressed Drew Barrymore and Brooke Shields for red-carpet events. Those accomplishments helped secure him a spot on Bravo's The Fashion Show, where his designs were scrutinized by the likes of Iman and Isaac Mizrahi.
Today, even as he serves as an ambassador for his alma mater, the Illinois Institute of Art, he operates boutiques in New York, San Francisco, and Chicago. At all three, his collections bear his signature style of draping, whether on asymmetrical maxi dresses or full-collared coats. Dresses and outerwear are his specialties, many of which are designed in neutral hues such as gray, black, brown, and leopard print, the latter of which is really only a neutral if you're a leopard.
